Independence

Mexico began it’s independece fight on September the 16 of 1810 and each September the streets of all the country are dressed with the colors of the flag.

In San Jose del Cabo the kiosk and the local park presents mexican music every weekend, now more than ever we have mariachis and great performers in there, the look and feel of everything here smells like Mexico. If you want to experience or to feel the whole mexican experience September is a great opportunity for it.

The best part of the celebration takes place the night of the 15th when the local president, governor and even the president of Mexico scream to the people waiting outside Viva Mexico like the father of this nation did  196 years ago.

Hangman restaurant in San Jose del Cabo

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

HangmanThe hangman restaurant is a simple and good place to go have dinner in San Jose del Cabo, it serves a lot of different meat tacos and quesadillas and the environment is really nice. Almost all nights they have live music from a single guy playing piano to a couple of guys playing percusions to a group playing smooth music.

The staff speaks english, the prices are low and the food is good, it’s located near the main road in San Jose del Cabo, around a Bank, to get here probably your best option is to ask the locals about it’s location everyone in San Jose knows the Hangman restaurant by it’s name in spanish (El ahorcado).

Clouds are finally away

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

For some days we had a lot of clouds in the south of the Baja Peninsula, from San Pedro to Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. Most of this days we there was a little bit of rain which was good because you can see the mountains and the roads turning green, something pretty awesome for the Baja since we are a desert.

Today is finally one of those sunny days here in Cabo San Lucas, there are a lot of people spending their summer’s vacations here, the weather is perfect and the only thing left for us is to enjoy the beautiful Baja.

Cabo Falso, the land’s end

Monday, July 24th, 2006

Most people think in Cabo San Lucas as the land’s end, in Cabo San Lucas you will find a place called Finisterra (actually there’s a hotel in there named Finisterra), but to be totally honest Cabo San Lucas is not the Land’s End.

The real land’s end is in a place called Cabo False (the false cape) which is the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula; this cape divides the sea of cortez and the pacific ocean. If you could go straight from this point to the south you won’t find land at all until you hit the Antarctic continent.

In Cabo Falso you will find amazing views, white sand dunes and a landmark in Baja, “el Faro Viejo” (the old lighthouse), I will write about this in another post because it really has an interesting history. When you come to Cabo make sure you visit the real Land’s End at Cabo Falso, by the way this is the place where the movie Troy was filmed (I just had to say it).
